What Google Ads actually costs a small business in India

Illustration of a rupee budget flowing through a funnel of clicks that narrows into a few enquiries, on a lime green ground
In shortPlan for at least ₹20,000 a month in Google ad spend to test properly, and about ₹40,000 once the test shows what works, plus a management fee if an agency runs it. Below that, most local businesses never collect enough data to learn which ads bring enquiries.

A small business in India should plan for at least ₹20,000 a month in Google ad spend to run a proper test. Once the test shows what brings enquiries, we recommend at least twice that, around ₹40,000. If an agency runs the account, a management fee comes on top. Our Paid ads package starts from ₹15,000 a month.

Anything below ₹20,000 is usually what we call boosting and praying. The ads run, the money goes, and at the end of the month you still do not know what worked.

How much do Google Ads cost a small business in India?

There are two separate costs, and most confusion comes from mixing them up.

The first is ad spend. This goes straight to Google. You pay for clicks, and Google’s own help pages explain that you often pay less than your maximum bid, because the auction looks at ad quality as well as price. A well matched ad can sit above a higher bidder and pay less per click.

The second is management. This is what you pay a person or an agency to research, build and run the campaigns. It does not buy clicks. It decides which clicks are worth buying.

Here is the floor we work with for a typical Hyderabad local business, such as a clinic, a coaching centre or an interior firm:

Platform Least we would test with What we recommend after the test
Google Ads ₹20,000 a month About ₹40,000 a month
Meta (Facebook) ₹10,000 a month About ₹20,000 a month
Instagram ₹10,000 a month About ₹20,000 a month

These are floors for testing a business, not a fixed price list. The right budget depends on the business, and we set it after looking at the market.

How does a Google Ads budget turn into a monthly bill?

You set an average daily budget, not a monthly one. Google’s help centre says a campaign can spend up to twice that figure on a busy day. Across a month, it will not charge more than 30.4 times the daily budget.

So for a ₹20,000 month, the daily budget is about ₹658. Some days will spend more, some less, and the month still lands near ₹20,000. Owners who see a ₹1,200 day and panic are usually looking at this rule working as designed.

Why ₹5,000 a month rarely works

Take a clinic. upGrowth’s 2026 guide estimates healthcare clicks in India at ₹30 to ₹250 each. At those prices, ₹5,000 buys somewhere between 20 and 166 clicks in a month.

Twenty clicks is less than one a day. Even at the cheap end, those clicks are spread across keywords, areas, ages and devices. When one enquiry comes in, you cannot tell which of those brought it. When none come in, you cannot tell what to fix.

That is the real problem with a tiny budget. It is not that the ads fail. It is that you never collect enough data to learn anything, so the next ₹5,000 is spent just as blindly as the first.

What does a lead from Google Ads cost in India?

We do not optimise for clicks. We optimise for conversions: a call, a WhatsApp message or a form filled in. A cheap click that never turns into a conversation is not cheap.

The lowest cost per enquiry we have achieved is ₹50. That number depends heavily on the product, the season and how crowded the niche is. A coaching centre in exam season and an interior firm in a slow month will never cost the same.

This is why conversion tracking comes first. Our paid ads service sets up tracking for calls, WhatsApp and forms before we spend more. Without it, nobody can tell you what a lead costs, including Google.

From budget to enquiries: the numbers to run

You can work out what a budget will buy with three steps. Use your own tracked numbers wherever you have them.

  1. Monthly budget divided by cost per click gives you clicks.
  2. Clicks multiplied by the share of people who enquire gives you enquiries.
  3. Monthly budget divided by enquiries gives you cost per enquiry.

With ₹20,000 and a range of ₹30 to ₹250 a click, step one gives you between 80 and 666 clicks.

Step two is the number nobody can give you in advance. It depends on your landing page, your offer and your area. That is exactly what a test budget is for. After the first month you have a real figure for step two, and from then on the budget decisions are based on your data instead of guesses.

Where small businesses waste money on Google Ads

Before Brand E5, Bharath worked at Google Operations Center as a Digital Media Consultant. The waste he saw most often there was targeting.

Small advertisers target a wide audience with a low budget. The money spreads so thin that no single audience gets enough clicks to show a pattern. At the end of the month there is not enough data to target properly or to connect ads to sales.

When we take over an account someone else set up, the leak is usually the same: there is no strategy behind it. A strategy decides:

  • which audiences see the ads, and which do not,
  • which areas the ads run in,
  • which income and interest groups are worth paying for,
  • how people engage with the ads, and the click through rate of each one,
  • what gets tracked, so the next change is based on numbers.

For example, an interior firm that only works in west Hyderabad gains nothing from clicks in Warangal. Cutting those areas does not reduce enquiries. It stops paying for people who could never become customers.

Why is the agency fee separate from the ad spend?

The ₹15,000 is for the thinking, not the clicks. Before a campaign goes live, we spend time on competitor analysis, keyword analysis and product analysis. Then we build campaigns grouped by intent and keep adjusting them every week.

A good agency also looks past the next conversion. It plans for the ease of running your business and your bigger goals, so organic reach is built into the strategy too. That is where paid ads connect to SEO and the rest of digital marketing.

Can you manage the account yourself? Yes, if you can do that research and analysis yourself. Without the expertise, self-managing usually means spending without learning. The fee is there so that every rupee of ad spend teaches you something.

When is ₹10,000 a month enough?

For a first test on Meta or Instagram, ₹10,000 is the least we would accept. It is enough to see whether an audience responds.

For Google Search, ₹10,000 is below our ₹20,000 floor for most local businesses. The budget runs out before the data is useful. If ₹10,000 is all you can spend this month, start on one platform and do it properly rather than splitting it across three.

What to do next

Decide your test budget first, then decide who runs it. If you want a second opinion on an existing account, we will look at the targeting, tracking and spend and tell you where it leaks. See the Paid ads package on our pricing page, or book a free audit.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum budget for Google Ads in India?

Google sets no minimum. Our working floor for a local business is ₹20,000 a month in ad spend for a first test, and we recommend about twice that once the test shows which campaigns bring enquiries.

Is ₹5,000 a month enough for Google Ads?

For most local businesses, no. At typical Indian click prices it buys somewhere between 20 and 166 clicks a month, which is too little data to tell which keyword, area or ad brought an enquiry.

Does Google charge more than my daily budget?

On a single day, Google can spend up to twice your average daily budget. Across the month, it will not charge more than 30.4 times your average daily budget.

Is the agency fee included in the ad spend?

No. Ad spend goes to Google. Our Paid ads package starts from ₹15,000 a month for management, which pays for the research, campaign build and weekly optimisation.

What should a lead from Google Ads cost?

It depends on the product, the season and how crowded your niche is. The lowest cost per enquiry we have achieved is ₹50, but that is a floor, not a promise. Your own tracked numbers after the first month are the real answer.
